The Soho Revue Bar was a late-night entertainment venue at 11 Walker's Court in the heart of London's Soho, occupying the famous premises that had previously housed Paul Raymond's legendary Raymond Revuebar. The building stands at the centre of Soho's nightlife district, and its history as one of the area's most storied venues stretches back to the late 1950s, long before its later incarnation under the Soho Revue Bar name. The original Raymond Revuebar opened in 1958 and operated for decades as a celebrated theatre and strip club, declaring itself the world centre of erotic entertainment with a brightly lit sign that became a Soho landmark. After it closed in 2004, the premises reopened as a gay bar and cabaret venue, before being renamed the Soho Revue Bar in November 2006 under new owners who set out to reposition it as a fashionable late-night club. During its time as the Soho Revue Bar, the venue established itself as a popular home for club nights and special events, hosting well-known nights and frequent one-off gala performances. It became a sought-after location for corporate and media events for clients such as the BBC, Sony and Rimmel, and was even used as a filming location for a Hollywood production, reflecting its glamorous reputation within the West End. Despite its popularity, the venue struggled financially and entered administration, finally closing its doors as the Soho Revue Bar in January 2009 amid wider difficulties affecting London's nightlife at the time. After a period standing empty, the historic premises were revived once again, reopening in 2011 as the cabaret nightclub The Box Soho, billed as a theatre of varieties under new ownership. The Soho Revue Bar therefore forms one chapter in the long and colourful story of a single Soho address that has hosted erotic theatre, cabaret, club nights and high-profile events across more than six decades.
