The Star of Kings is a characterful pub and live entertainment venue on York Way in King's Cross, a short walk behind King's Cross station and recognisable by its large beer garden out front. Describing itself as anything but a traditional King's Cross boozer, it spreads across three floors of activity and has long been a fixture of the area's nightlife, predating much of the district's recent regeneration. The main pub offers the relaxed feel of a proper local, with a well-stocked bar, a kitchen known for its tacos and a covered terrace overlooking the station, making it a popular spot for everything from casual pints to group celebrations. Sections of the main pub can be hired for parties large and small, with larger groups able to take over the space and bring in their own DJs and entertainment. The venue's real draw lies beneath the streets, in the underground club space known as Behind the Bookcase. Reached through a not-so-secret bookcase entrance, this air-conditioned basement holds up to 120 guests and comes equipped with its own stage, private bar and a Funktion-One sound system, making it an ideal room for club nights, live music, comedy and private parties. Over the years the Star of Kings has built a strong reputation for entertainment, hosting DJ residencies, including a former residency by Basement Jaxx and a radio rap show recorded in the basement, alongside live bands and comedy nights featuring well-known names. A first-floor function room, the Green Room, adds further flexible space for smaller gatherings, presentations and creative events such as life drawing. By combining a welcoming three-floor pub with a dedicated underground club and additional function spaces, the Star of Kings offers a versatile venue for a wide range of occasions in central London. Its blend of food, drink, live music, comedy and club nights has made it a dependable and distinctive destination within the busy King's Cross scene.
