With more than a million glowing balls spread across two giant pits, Ballie Ballerson reimagines the childhood ball pit as a grown-up cocktail bar. Its flagship Shoreditch venue, on Curtain Road, surrounds a vast pit with mirrored walls and tens of thousands of LED lights, creating a surreal, neon-lit playground that has been named by Time Out as London's best activity bar. The concept pairs that spectacle with a serious drinks operation. Flair bartenders mix an award-winning list of cocktails, from nostalgic twists on classics to the venue's own signatures, while a kitchen turns out homemade Neapolitan-style pizzas. The musical policy leans on a mix of pop, house, disco and R and B, remixing familiar melodies into something easy to dance to as the night wears on. Beyond casual drop-ins, Ballie Ballerson is geared towards groups and celebrations. It runs bottomless brunches across the week, hosts hen parties, birthdays and team nights, and offers private karaoke rooms and bookable booths, with packages designed to suit a range of budgets and party sizes. A redesign expanded the ball pits to more than twice their original size, added extra seating and gave the venue a sleeker look while keeping its playful core intact. The result is a space that deliberately blurs the line between bar, nightclub and entertainment attraction, encouraging guests to shed their adult inhibitions. Entry is strictly for over-18s, with identification required, and the smart-casual dress code suggests secure, flat footwear suited to the pits. Set in the heart of trend-conscious Shoreditch and close to several Underground and Overground stations, the venue has become one of East London's best-known novelty nights out. The Shoreditch site is the original and best known of the brand's venues, and retains its claim to operate the world's largest permanent ball pit. Cloakroom facilities are available for a small fee, and the venue is reached easily from the Old Street, Liverpool Street and Shoreditch High Street stations that ring the neighbourhood.
