Trading from a basement just off the bustle of Call Lane, Distrikt is an underground bar, restaurant and nightclub that has been a fixture of Leeds nightlife since 2009. Its founders set out to combine three specialisms under one roof - quality food, an interesting drinks list and cutting-edge events - and the venue still runs on a "substance over style" ethos that prizes the music and the crowd over surface gloss. By day and early evening Distrikt operates as a bar and eatery, with a kitchen led by experienced chefs serving Mediterranean and Middle Eastern tapas, from arancini and calamari to spiced sharing plates. The drinks menu spans classic and contemporary cocktails, craft beers and a wide-ranging wine list, served in a modern room of sleek black seating, grey tiled floors and colourful wall art. As the night progresses the space transforms into a club, powered by a custom-fitted Martin Audio sound system and kept free to enter every night. Over the years it has welcomed an impressive roll-call of DJs and dance acts, including Joey Negro, Nightmares on Wax and Octave One, building a reputation as one of the city's most respected small venues for underground electronic music. Intimate by design, with a capacity of around one hundred and fifty, Distrikt trades on closeness rather than scale, and its free-entry policy and weekly drinks offers have made it a dependable late-night destination. Entry is for over-eighteens with identification required, and a smart-casual dress code keeps the atmosphere relaxed but considered. Set at 7 Duncan Street in the heart of the city, close to the bars of Call Lane and the central shopping district, Distrikt sits among a cluster of independent Leeds nightlife venues. Its blend of tapas kitchen, cocktail bar and free-entry club night has kept it a distinctive part of the city's scene for more than a decade.
