Tucked beneath street level on the lower stretch of Union Street, Nola is a lavish subterranean cocktail bar that has become one of Dundee's most distinctive late-night spots. Run by the MacMerry300 group behind local favourites Bird and Bear and Abandon Ship, it pairs jewel-toned velvet seating and atmospheric lighting with a theatrical approach to drinks and a programme of DJ sets seven nights a week. The 120-capacity space is built for indulgence, with cosy corners and a warm, opulent ambience that suits everything from date nights to long catch-ups with friends. Open until the small hours every night, it shifts from a relaxed early-evening lounge into a lively late-night venue as resident and guest DJs, including local names such as Le Freak Records and Liam Reilly, take over after dark. Drinks are very much the headline act, with a specially curated menu of imaginative signature cocktails designed to catch the eye as much as the palate. Theatrical serves such as the smoke-shrouded Ailla Frizzo and the Cats Pyjamas, presented in a ceramic cat, sit alongside classic cocktails, craft beers and original creations that have helped build the bar's social-media following.
