Housed in a beautifully restored Grade B listed church on the edge of Glasgow's Merchant City, Saint Luke's is a music and arts venue that pairs a breathtaking former place of worship with a busy programme of live performance. The building began life as St Luke's Parish Church, dating to the 1830s, and was sympathetically converted after the congregation departed, reopening as a venue in the 2010s. The main hall retains the soaring features of its origins, with high vaulted ceilings, original stained-glass windows and a striking pipe-organ display behind the stage, all of which lend gigs a warmth and natural resonance that few purpose-built rooms can match. With a standing capacity of up to six hundred, it sits in the mid-size bracket prized by touring artists looking for atmosphere as well as scale. Named best live music venue at the 2017 Glasgow awards, Saint Luke's hosts a wide-ranging calendar of concerts spanning indie, rock, folk and electronic music, alongside club nights and one-off events. Its adaptable space is equally suited to seated and standing shows, and the acoustics of the old church flatter everything from intimate singer-songwriter sets to full-band performances. The venue also operates as a year-round events space, hosting weddings, receptions, conferences and presentations across configurations that range from banquets and cabaret seating to theatre layouts for several hundred guests. On the ground floor, the Winged Ox bar and kitchen serves food and drink seven days a week, meaning visitors rarely need to leave the building. Located on Bain Street next door to the legendary Barrowland Ballroom, in the vibrant East End and a short distance from St Enoch underground and the Bellgrove and High Street stations, it is easily accessible. Combining heritage architecture, strong acoustics and an in-house bar and kitchen, Saint Luke's has become one of Glasgow's most beloved mid-capacity venues.
