A multi-award-winning basement institution on Central Road, the HiFi Club has been a cornerstone of Leeds nightlife since 2001. It opened after the closure of the much-loved Underground, when promoters Ed Mason, John Morelli and Steven Allison took on the basement space and moved across the staff and a host of popular club nights, many of which still run today. Three times voted both best nightclub and best live music venue at the Leeds Bar and Club Awards, it has earned a reputation for quality music and independent charm. The programme blends DJ-led and live music nights spanning soul, funk, hip hop, Motown, reggae and disco, drawing a friendly, music-focused crowd. With a capacity of around three to four hundred and a compact stage with excellent sightlines, the room is intimate enough to feel personal yet substantial enough to host serious talent. Past performers include Nightmares on Wax, Gilles Peterson, Little Dragon, Quantic and many more. The venue is just as celebrated for comedy as for music. Its Saturday Comedy Club has helped launch the careers of names such as Alan Carr, Sarah Millican and Russell Howard, and continues to attract well-known acts including Chris Ramsey and Katherine Ryan. That dual identity, switching between live gigs, club nights and stand-up, gives the HiFi a versatility few of its rivals can match. Beyond ticketed events, the space is available for private hire, hosting birthdays, student parties, club-night launches, band showcases and corporate functions. A full PA system suitable for live music comes at no extra cost, and the team can arrange sound engineers, DJs and catering to suit, reinforcing its role as a genuine all-purpose entertainment room. Tucked beneath the city centre with excellent acoustics and a welcoming atmosphere, the HiFi Club has outlasted many trend-driven venues by staying true to its founding emphasis on great music and good service. For Leeds clubbers, comedy fans and gig-goers alike, it remains a dependable and much-loved fixture of the city's after-dark scene.
