Spanning 27,000 square feet across three tiers, South Side Ballroom is the largest of the venues that make up the Gilley's Dallas complex in the Cedars District, just south of downtown. Since opening in 2007 it has grown into a prominent fixture of the Dallas concert circuit, a flexible room whose floor plan can be reconfigured to suit the scale of each event. That adaptability is the venue's defining feature. The space can be set as an intimate room for around 2,500, opened up to hold roughly 4,000, or extended into an outdoor festival-style configuration, with three tiers offering good sight lines and accessibility. A touring-size stage, multiple built-in bars, dressing rooms, a green room and a loading dock give it arena-quality production capability in a mid-sized footprint. Booked and promoted exclusively by Live Nation, South Side Ballroom has hosted thousands of concerts and events, with a roll call of performers that includes Arctic Monkeys, Bruno Mars, Dua Lipa, Imagine Dragons, Kendrick Lamar, Khalid, Lauryn Hill, Twenty One Pilots and Zedd. A one million dollar renovation in 2018 upgraded the room and reinforced its reputation for versatility. Alongside its life as a music venue, the ballroom doubles as a private event space, hosting product launches, fundraisers, corporate functions and wedding receptions, with distinct areas that can be draped or decorated to create VIP zones. Walkable from DART stations and served by a large parking lot, it offers a rare combination of central location, scalable capacity and full production amenities within the wider Gilley's entertainment campus. The ballroom is the biggest of seven venues within the Gilley's Dallas complex, and its production specification reflects its concert ambitions: a large stage measuring around fifty feet wide, five custom bars with touch-screen service, a box office, a merchandise area, four furnished dressing rooms with private bathrooms and a convertible covered patio. The surrounding street, once South Lamar, has been renamed Botham Jean Boulevard. Walkable access to DART's Cedars and convention-centre stations and a large parking lot make it straightforward to reach, and the room's scalability lets promoters dial the same space up or down depending on demand for a given show.
