On the eastern crescent of the Palm Jumeirah artificial archipelago immediately adjacent to the original Atlantis The Palm resort, Atlantis The Royal is one of the most architecturally distinctive and most expensive luxury hotels ever built in the broader United Arab Emirates. The 795-room ultra-luxury resort opened on 10 February 2023 at a total construction cost of approximately 1.4 billion dollars, the result of a joint venture between the Kerzner International hotel group and the Investment Corporation of Dubai. The extraordinary architectural design, by the American firm Kohn Pedersen Fox in partnership with the Hong Kong-based studio Sybarite, was specifically intended to break dramatically from the more traditional pastel-coloured Atlantis aesthetic of the adjacent original resort. The 43-storey building is composed of 28 individual stacked rectangular volumes arranged in a deliberately irregular pattern, with the various volumes offset horizontally and vertically from each other to produce the appearance of an enormous tower of stacked rectangular blocks. The exterior is clad in dark grey and pale gold metallic panels, with the stacked volumes connected by deliberately exposed structural bridges and cantilevered terraces. The 10,000-square-metre Royal Spa, designed by the Paris-based studio Tristan Auer, is one of the largest hotel spas in the broader Middle East. The Royal Suites occupy the uppermost floors of the building and include the Royal Mansion (the largest hotel suite in the entire Middle East at approximately 1,182 square metres) and several 200-square-metre individual signature suites priced at the top of the regional luxury market. The resort houses an extraordinary collection of 17 dining venues, with several major chef-driven destinations anchoring the programme. Nobu by the Beach is a beachfront branch of the international Nobu Japanese-Peruvian restaurant chain. Carna by Dario Cecchini is an Italian steakhouse from the Tuscan butcher Dario Cecchini. Estiatorio Milos offers Greek seafood, Resonance by Hakkasan modern Chinese, and La Mar by Gaston Acurio Peruvian seafood from the Lima-based chef of the same name. Several casual all-day dining venues, a poolside bar and a rooftop nightclub round out the programme. The Skyblaze infinity pool is among the largest cantilevered infinity pools in the world, with the 96-metre-long pool projecting some 27 metres beyond the building's 22nd-floor structural footprint and directly over the beach below.
