Inside the larger Zabeel Park complex about three kilometres south-east of central downtown Dubai, Dino Park Dubai is a dedicated outdoor walk-through dinosaur-themed park covering approximately 5 hectares of landscaped parkland adjacent to the popular Dubai Frame. The park opened in February 2018 as part of the broader Zabeel Park family-entertainment programme, providing one of the principal outdoor children-and-family attractions in central downtown Dubai. The park is built around an extensive collection of more than 100 individual life-size animatronic dinosaur reproductions, representing more than 30 distinct prehistoric species. The animatronic reproductions are designed and manufactured by the Chinese animatronics firm Zigong Source Animatronic Technology (the principal global supplier of theme-park-quality animatronic dinosaurs), with the individual figures ranging in scale from small 2-metre-long Compsognathus reproductions through full 25-metre-long Argentinosaurus reproductions. The principal walking route through the park follows a deliberately winding path through carefully landscaped vegetation, with the individual animatronic dinosaurs positioned at varying distances from the path to provide visitors with a continuously evolving series of close-up encounters. The largest individual animatronics (the celebrated Tyrannosaurus rex, the Spinosaurus, the Brachiosaurus, the Argentinosaurus and the Triceratops) are positioned at deliberately dramatic intervals along the route, with each large animatronic providing a particular photo-opportunity backdrop. The animatronic reproductions are fully articulated and synchronised to small audio systems hidden in the surrounding landscaping. Each dinosaur figure moves continuously throughout the operating day, with synchronised eye, mouth, neck, tail and limb movements producing convincing approximations of likely Cretaceous-era dinosaur behaviour. Each figure also produces synchronised vocalisations. The park also includes several interactive educational stations covering aspects of palaeontology including a small fossil-themed sandbox where children can excavate replica dinosaur bones using soft brushes and small picks, a small skeletal-articulation puzzle table where visitors can reassemble disassembled fibreglass dinosaur skeleton replicas and a small interpretive plaque programme providing brief scientific summaries of each species. The park operates daily during the cooler October-through-April season with reduced operating hours during the hotter summer months.
