Thrash metal roared to life in 1981 when James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich teamed up in Los Angeles. Their site labels them 'genre pioneers,' a title earned with 'Master of Puppets' (1986). The 'Black Album' (1991) sold 16 million in the US alone, totaling over 125 million worldwide. Cliff Burton’s 1986 death tested them, but they thrived. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009, '72 Seasons' (2023) shows their fire burns bright.
