Babylon Bomonti

Since opening its doors in 1999, Babylon has stood at the very forefront of Istanbul's live-music culture. The venue made its name in the Asmalimescit district, where its stage hosted contemporary and progressive sounds and transformed the city's musical landscape, before relocating in 2015 to a purpose-built home within the historic Bomontiada complex in Sisli. That move placed it inside a beautifully restored 19th-century brewery, a red-brick cultural hub now filled with restaurants, galleries and the buzz of social life. Across its history its stages have welcomed an extraordinary roll-call of global names, from Patti Smith, Thurston Moore and Macy Gray to Diplo, Apparat and Moodymann, alongside the cream of Turkish music. Its programming roams freely across jazz, rock, electronic and world music, drawing tens of thousands of music lovers each season. In summer the brand decamps to two beach venues, Babylon Kilyos on the Black Sea and Babylon Aya Yorgi near Cesme. More than a concert hall, it functions as a meeting point for music and ideas, a stage that has helped shape the city's cultural identity. A live-music institution, Babylon endures as one of Istanbul's most important venues, a Bomontiada landmark whose pioneering bookings, storied history and adventurous programming have made it a cornerstone of the Turkish music scene.
