Madame Tussauds Hollywood

Unspecified/General

On Hollywood Boulevard beside the historic Chinese Theatre, Madame Tussauds Hollywood is a wax museum stocked with lifelike figures of film stars, musicians, athletes and other celebrities, posed for visitors to walk among and photograph. Opened in 2009, it brings the long-running waxworks brand to the centre of the movie capital, leaning naturally into themes of cinema and stardom. The franchise traces its roots to the eighteenth-century French wax modeller Marie Tussaud, who learned her craft during the upheavals of revolutionary Paris and later established a permanent exhibition in London. That original collection grew into an international chain, and each branch tailors its line-up to local tastes, with the Hollywood site naturally heavy on film and television figures. Unlike a traditional museum, the appeal here is interaction. There are no ropes or barriers; visitors are encouraged to pose alongside the figures, recreate red-carpet moments and step into themed sets drawn from popular films and television. The sculptures are made through a painstaking process of measurement and modelling, with real hair and detailed paintwork giving them their uncanny realism. Its position on the boulevard places it among the cluster of Hollywood attractions, steps from the celebrity handprints in the forecourt of the Chinese Theatre and the stars of the Walk of Fame, and it forms part of the strip of tourist venues that line the famous street. For visitors the museum is a light, playful stop best measured in an hour or two, popular with families and groups looking for photographs with their favourite stars. Tickets are cheaper booked online in advance, the venue is open through the day and into the evening, and it sits within easy reach of the Metro station and the other landmarks of central Hollywood. Figures are regularly added, retired and updated to keep pace with shifting fame, so the line-up changes over time and repeat visitors find new faces. Themed rooms and props encourage playful photographs, and the venue is fully indoors and air-conditioned, a welcome refuge from the heat and crowds of the boulevard outside.
