Spread across some three hundred acres at the eastern end of Waikiki, in the shadow of Diamond Head, Kapiolani Regional Park is the oldest and largest public park in Hawaii. It was established in 1877 under King Kalakaua, who named it in honour of his queen, Kapiolani, and dedicated it as a gathering place for the public, a role it has filled ever since across generations of residents and visitors.
