Original Selfie Museum - Seattle

Unspecified/General

In the heart of downtown Seattle just a short walk from Pike Place Market, the Original Selfie Museum is one of the city's most popular small interactive photography attractions. The venue opened in August 2020 in a converted second-floor space at the corner of First Avenue and Union Street, joining the international wave of similar selfie-focused photo museums that proliferated in major cities during the late 2010s as social media made shareable personal photographs an increasingly important part of mainstream tourism. The premise is simple. The 4,000-square-foot venue houses more than thirty themed photo backdrops, each designed to provide a distinctive, brightly coloured and highly photogenic setting for individual and group selfies. The themed rooms include a brightly painted underwater grotto, a giant flower wall, a hot-air balloon basket, a pink ball-pit, an iridescent angel-wing wall, a graffiti-covered Brooklyn-style alley, a kitchen-themed area with oversized props, a Pacific Northwest forest scene with painted trees and a glowing neon nightclub. The format is deliberately approachable. Visitors are encouraged to pose freely, use any of the venue's costume props and bring their own cameras and phones for the shots, with helpful staff on hand to offer photo-composition tips and to take group shots when requested. A formal photo concierge service for additional fees offers professional-quality shots with a dedicated photographer. The museum hosts a steady calendar of seasonal photo backdrop refreshes, with new themes added regularly to keep the experience fresh for return visitors. Particularly popular times include Valentine's Day and the Halloween and Christmas seasons, when the museum adds themed backdrops appropriate to each holiday. The venue works particularly well for birthday parties, group outings, bachelorette parties, social media influencer shoots and casual evenings with friends. A small dressing room is available for visitors who bring their own outfits. Tickets are sold by timed entry, with discounted online pricing and group-rate packages available. The compact size of the venue means a typical visit lasts approximately one hour.
