Bubble Planet Washington DC

Unspecified/General

In a converted warehouse space on Rhode Island Avenue in the rapidly developing NoMa neighbourhood about a mile north of Union Station in Washington, Bubble Planet is one of the most popular immersive interactive entertainment venues in the city. The 20,000-square-foot complex opened in February 2024 as part of the small international Bubble Planet chain (operating similar venues in Madrid, Mexico City, Miami and several other major American cities), occupying a brightly lit warehouse space deliberately styled to capitalise on the booming social-media-driven demand for shareable photographic entertainment experiences. The premise is delightfully simple. The complex is organised around the celebration of bubbles in every conceivable form, with a sequence of twelve themed rooms each featuring different bubble-related immersive experiences. The flagship experience is the celebrated Bubble Ball Pit, a 9,000-square-foot adult-sized ball pit filled with more than 250,000 brightly coloured translucent plastic balls of various sizes, where visitors of all ages can wade, swim, dive, throw and pose for photographs in what amounts to a giant adult-friendly recreation of a children's ball-pit attraction. Other immersive rooms include the celebrated Infinity Room (an apparently endless mirror-walled space studded with thousands of pinpoint LED lights), the Bubble Symphony (a darkened room with hundreds of suspended translucent bubble-shaped lanterns choreographed to a continuous custom musical score), the Aquarium Tunnel (a curved acrylic walk-through tunnel surrounded by holographic projections of tropical reef life), the Big Bubble Slide (a 25-foot bubble-themed inflatable slide), the Selfie Room (with several themed photo backdrops at different angles) and the popular Glow Room (a darkened room studded with bioluminescent floor projections that respond to visitor footsteps). A separate Bubble Bath VR room (included with the standard admission ticket) provides a 5-minute immersive virtual-reality experience involving floating through a bubble-filled underwater landscape. Visitors are given a wireless VR headset for this section. The complex is designed to be enjoyed at a leisurely pace, with most visitors spending approximately 90 minutes to two hours wandering through the various rooms. Tickets are sold by timed entry, with discounted online pricing.
