Unspecified/General
In the bustling Seaport District of Boston about half a mile south of the Financial District, the Museum of Ice Cream Boston is one of the most heavily Instagrammed immersive entertainment venues in the city. The 25,000-square-foot complex opened in December 2023 as the seventh permanent Museum of Ice Cream location worldwide (following the original 2016 pop-up in New York and subsequent permanent locations in Los Angeles, Miami, San Francisco, Singapore, Chicago and now Boston), occupying a substantial multi-storey converted commercial space at the heart of the Seaport District. The Museum of Ice Cream concept was developed in 2016 by the entrepreneur Maryellis Bunn and the cofounder Manish Vora as a celebrated New York pop-up exhibition originally intended for a 28-day run. The combination of the celebrated immersive sprinkle pool with the explosive growth of social-media-driven photo-tourism produced a runaway hit that has since evolved into one of the most successful immersive entertainment brands of the modern era. The Boston location is organised around a sequence of approximately 14 individually themed immersive rooms, each playfully exploring a different aspect of ice cream and the broader culture of frozen desserts. The standout single attraction is the celebrated Sprinkle Pool, a swimming-pool-sized vessel filled with approximately 100 million individual sprinkle-shaped pieces of biodegradable plastic, in which visitors of all ages can wade, swim, dive, throw and pose for photographs. Other immersive rooms include the celebrated Pink Walls (a single completely pink-painted room featuring six different photo backdrops), the Banana Forest (a dramatic dark room hung with hundreds of glowing yellow inflatable bananas), the Cherry Garden (a celebrated room with hundreds of suspended pink-and-red cherry-shaped lanterns), the Disco Ball (a small disco-themed dance room), the Vanilla Bean (a serene white-on-white room), the celebrated Sundae Bar (where visitors can build their own customised ice cream sundae) and the Soft Serve room (with a small functioning ice cream parlour). The visit concludes at the celebrated Pink Cafe, a small full-service ice cream and dessert cafe selling the museum's celebrated proprietary ice cream flavours along with branded merchandise. Tickets are sold by timed entry, with discounted online pricing for advance booking.
