T-Mobile Arena - Vegas Golden Knights Hockey Games

Unspecified/General

On the western side of the Las Vegas Strip immediately behind the New York-New York Hotel and Casino in the Park MGM entertainment district, T-Mobile Arena is the largest indoor arena in Las Vegas and the home venue of the Vegas Golden Knights of the National Hockey League. The 17,500-seat indoor arena (expandable to 20,000 for boxing matches and concerts) opened on 6 April 2016 at a cost of approximately 375 million dollars, the result of a partnership between MGM Resorts International and the Anschutz Entertainment Group. The arena's opening predated the establishment of the Vegas Golden Knights themselves by some 18 months. The Golden Knights were awarded a 500-million-dollar NHL expansion franchise in June 2016 (just two months after the arena's opening) and began play in October 2017 as the first major-league professional sports team based in Las Vegas. The team's extraordinary inaugural 2017-2018 season, which saw the expansion franchise reach the Stanley Cup Final in its very first year of play (the only expansion team in NHL history to do so), cemented the team's relationship with the local fan base and established the arena as the principal venue for major-league professional sport in southern Nevada. The arena's seating bowl is configured in the standard NHL-and-NBA bowl configuration, with 50 luxury suites on the suite level, 44 loge boxes on the loge level and approximately 8,000 individual premium club seats in the lower bowl. The unusually steep upper-deck pitch (a design choice intended to bring all spectators closer to the playing surface) provides exceptionally good sightlines from every seat in the building, with the highest seats in the upper deck still less than 150 feet from the centre ice. The arena hosts an extraordinary calendar of non-hockey events throughout the year. The popular UFC mixed martial arts pay-per-view broadcasts have made the arena one of the most heavily used UFC venues in the world, with the UFC International Fight Week (each July) anchored at the venue. The annual Academy of Country Music Awards and the annual iHeartRadio Music Festival are both held at the arena. The Vegas Golden Knights won the Stanley Cup at the arena in June 2023, defeating the Florida Panthers in five games to win the franchise's first championship just six years after its founding.
