On the second level of the Dubai Mall opposite Galeries Lafayette in the heart of downtown Dubai, ARTE MUSEUM DUBAI is the largest immersive media-art experience in the broader Middle East region and the seventh permanent venue in the rapidly expanding international ARTE MUSEUM chain operated by the South Korean media-art studio d'strict. The 30,000-square-foot complex opened on 27 April 2024, joining the chain's existing venues in Seoul, Jeju, Busan, Gangneung, Las Vegas and Chengdu. The ARTE MUSEUM concept was developed in 2020 by the South Korean immersive media-art studio d'strict, the same studio behind the Wave installation that drew international attention in May 2020 for its dramatic anamorphic LED display of a giant crashing wave on the exterior of the COEX K-Pop Square building in Seoul. The concept combines large-scale immersive digital projections, surround sound, scent diffusion and tactile environmental elements to create what the studio describes as "Eternal Nature" - a continuously evolving meditation on the natural world rendered through digital media art. The Dubai venue organises the visitor experience around twelve individually themed immersive rooms, each occupying a substantial dedicated space and each focused on a different natural environment or visual theme. The standout single room is the Waterfall, a four-storey-tall floor-to-ceiling immersive projection of a continuously cascading tropical waterfall, with the floor itself projected to recreate the appearance of a moving stream and the surrounding side walls projected with continuously evolving rainforest imagery. Other major themed rooms include the Garden (an immersive flower-garden environment with continuously evolving floral imagery), the Forest (a walk-through woodland recreation), the Beach (a tropical beach environment with ambient sound and synchronised scent diffusion), the Wave (an immersive recreation of the original 2020 COEX wave installation that brought the studio its initial international fame), the Night Safari (an immersive African wildlife environment) and the Stars (an immersive cosmic environment featuring the night sky and slow-moving galaxies), along with several smaller rotating themed rooms. A dedicated Dubai-themed gallery, unique to this venue, presents an immersive multimedia interpretation of the desert ecology and architectural heritage of the United Arab Emirates region. The visit concludes at the Tea Bar, a small refreshment space serving themed teas and small desserts inspired by the immersive environments just experienced. Tickets are sold by timed entry, with discounted online pricing for advance booking.
