On the central western coastline of Yas Island just east of central Abu Dhabi, Ferrari World Abu Dhabi is the first Ferrari-branded theme park in the world and one of the largest indoor theme parks ever built. The 86,000-square-metre indoor park opened on 4 November 2010 as part of the broader Yas Island entertainment development programme, occupying a dedicated dramatic-red-roofed building that ranks among the largest individual buildings ever constructed in the broader Abu Dhabi region. The park's defining architectural feature is the dramatic Ferrari-themed roof structure. The 200,000-square-metre red-painted aluminium roof, designed by the American architectural firm Benoy in partnership with the Italian Ferrari Design Centre, is shaped to closely replicate the curving body lines of a classic Ferrari sports car when viewed from above. The dramatic roof shelters the entire indoor park beneath a single continuous structural surface, with the central peak rising 50 metres above the central plaza below. The park houses more than 40 individual attractions arranged across five themed zones, all of which draw heavily on the broader Ferrari brand heritage. The standout single attraction is the dramatic Formula Rossa roller coaster, which has held the title of the fastest roller coaster in the world since the park's 2010 opening. The compressed-air-launched coaster accelerates from a standstill to 240 kilometres per hour in just 4.9 seconds, with the resulting 4.8g maximum acceleration force exceeding the corresponding launch forces of contemporary F1 race cars. The second principal headline attraction is the Flying Aces inverted roller coaster, which combines the steepest roller coaster lift hill in the world (a near-vertical 51-metre lift hill) with the largest non-inverted roller coaster loop in the world (a dramatic 52-metre vertical loop at the top of the initial drop). The dramatic 2.8-kilometre track wraps almost entirely around the central park building and provides extended views of the broader Yas Island landscape. Other major attractions include the Ferrari-themed Driving Experience (small electric karts driven by guests on a dedicated themed track), the Galleria Ferrari (an extensive permanent exhibition covering the broader history of the Ferrari road-car and race-car heritage including several authentic historic Ferrari vehicles), the popular Junior GT children's coaster, the Karting Academy and the popular Bell'Italia simulated drive through the Italian Tuscan countryside. The park is open daily with the standard day-pass admission including unlimited access to all attractions.
