On the third floor of the City Centre Mirdif shopping complex in the Mirdif district of inland Dubai about 20 minutes east of central downtown, iFly Dubai is the only operating indoor skydiving venue in the broader United Arab Emirates and the first iFLY-branded indoor skydiving facility opened anywhere in the broader Middle East region. The facility opened in November 2010 as part of the broader Play Nation family-entertainment district at City Centre Mirdif, joining what is now a global network of more than 80 iFLY facilities operating in cities throughout North America, Europe, Asia and Australia. The iFly Dubai facility houses a 5-metre diameter, 10-metre tall flight chamber, one of the largest individual chamber configurations in the broader iFLY chain. The chamber walls are made of laminated tempered safety glass, providing full visibility for waiting flyers and spectators in the surrounding viewing gallery. A powerful array of axial fans mounted at the chamber base generates a continuously recirculating vertical airflow at speeds of approximately 150 to 200 kilometres per hour, strong enough to lift and suspend an adult flyer in mid-air without any visible support. The fully controlled indoor environment makes the experience accessible to flyers from age 3 through the upper retirement years, with no fitness or skydiving experience required beyond the standard pre-flight safety briefing. The cumulative result is that visitors who would never voluntarily jump from an actual aircraft can safely experience the freefall sensation in a fully controlled environment. A standard first-time-flyer package includes a 30-minute pre-flight orientation and safety briefing, the issuing of a full body flight suit, helmet, goggles and earplugs, and two individual 60-second flights in the chamber with personalised one-on-one coaching from a trained iFLY flight instructor. The single-minute flight duration is closely calibrated to match the approximate freefall duration of an actual outdoor skydive from typical jump altitudes. The facility also operates advanced training programmes for licensed skydivers and competitive bodyflyers, with the centre serving as the regional training facility for the broader Middle East indoor skydiving community. Walk-in flights are available subject to capacity throughout the operating day, with online advance booking strongly recommended for weekend and holiday periods.
