SkyFeast at Sydney Tower

Revolving slowly high above the city, SkyFeast is the buffet restaurant set inside the golden turret of Sydney Tower, the tallest structure in the city and one of its most recognisable landmarks. As diners eat, the floor turns a full circle over the course of around an hour and a half, presenting a continuous 360-degree panorama of Sydney, its harbour and the surrounding suburbs. The tower itself rises some 250 metres above the streets of the central business district, and its observation levels and dining venues are reached by high-speed lifts from a base within a city shopping centre. SkyFeast occupies one of the revolving levels, offering a self-serve buffet of hot and cold dishes alongside the changing view. The rotating floor moves slowly enough that diners barely notice the motion, yet over a meal the outlook shifts from the harbour and Opera House to the ocean beaches, the distant Blue Mountains and the spread of the city grid. Window seating means every table eventually faces each direction in turn. The format suits special occasions, tourists and groups wanting a meal with a spectacle, and it is often combined with a visit to the tower's observation deck or the Skywalk, an open-air glass-floored platform near the top. The buffet style keeps things informal and family-friendly despite the lofty setting. As part of the wider Sydney Tower Eye complex, the restaurant trades heavily on its position rather than fine dining alone, with the view as the main event. For first-time visitors getting their bearings, a meal here doubles as an orientation flight over the city without leaving the ground. Sydney Tower opened in 1981 and remains the tallest structure in the city, long a fixed point on the skyline above the shopping streets of the central business district. The dining levels sit just below the observation decks, and a single visit can take in both, with the revolving restaurant offering a leisurely meal and the deck a quick circuit of the views. Bookings are advisable, particularly for dinner and at sunset when demand is highest, and packages often bundle the meal with deck entry. While opinions on the buffet itself vary, few dispute that the slowly turning panorama of harbour, ocean and city is the reason to come.
