Belgian Beer World Experience

Inside the grand former stock exchange on Boulevard Anspach, Belgian Beer World turns one of the most imposing nineteenth-century buildings in Brussels into an immersive celebration of the country brewing culture. The Bourse, built in 1873 with a richly carved facade, stood empty for years before a major restoration reopened it in 2023 as a public hub crowned by this interactive beer experience. Belgium takes its beer seriously, and the diversity of its styles, from Trappist ales brewed by monks to sour lambics, golden strong ales, witbiers and fruit beers, is recognised by Unesco as part of the country living heritage. The experience guides visitors through that variety with a personalised, technology-led trail, exploring ingredients, brewing methods, history and the rituals of glassware and serving. The journey is designed to engage the senses as much as the intellect, with displays on aroma, taste and the agricultural roots of brewing, and it culminates on a rooftop terrace and bar offering wide views over the historic centre. There a tasting, included with the ticket, lets visitors put theory into practice with a beer chosen to suit their preferences. The restoration also revealed the past beneath the building, and the Bruxella 1238 archaeological site, the remains of a medieval convent uncovered under the square, can be seen as part of the wider project, linking the modern attraction to the deep history of the spot. Its position could hardly be more central, on the busy pedestrianised boulevard between the Grand Place and the old town, so the venue doubles as a landmark and a gateway to the surrounding streets, cafes and chocolate shops. For visitors curious about why Belgium is regarded as one of the world great beer nations, the experience offers a polished, engaging and genuinely informative introduction, ending with a glass in hand above the rooftops of the capital. Tickets include the interactive trail and a tasting on the rooftop, and booking ahead is sensible at busy times, with the building also open to passers-by who simply want to admire the restored Bourse and step onto the terrace. Standing on the main pedestrian boulevard between the Grand Place and the canal quarter, it could hardly be more central, and it works well as either a first orientation or a fitting finale to a day in the city.
