Bird Paradise Singapore

Home to more than three and a half thousand birds drawn from some four hundred species, Bird Paradise is the largest bird park in Asia, a lush expanse in the Mandai nature precinct where visitors wander through vast walk-through aviaries among free-flying flocks. The park opened in 2023 as the successor to the much-loved Jurong Bird Park, which had delighted generations of Singaporeans since 1971, and the great migration of thousands of birds from the old site to the new was a remarkable undertaking in itself. Spread across some seventeen hectares, the park is organised around eight enormous walk-through aviaries, each recreating a different habitat from around the world, so that visitors pass from the dense rainforests of Africa to the wetlands of South America, the paddy fields of Southeast Asia and the dry eucalypt forests of Australia, encountering the birds of each region amid carefully crafted landscapes of plants, waterfalls and streams. Within these immersive enclosures, suspension bridges and elevated walkways carry visitors up into the canopy, allowing them to see birds at every level from the forest floor to the treetops, often close enough to touch. Beyond the headline aviaries, the park presents a colourful cast of penguins, flamingos, parrots, hornbills and many rare and endangered species, and it plays a serious role in conservation and breeding, supported by a state-of-the-art avian hospital. Engaging presentations and feeding sessions allow visitors to learn about the birds and watch them in action, while shaded paths, eateries and rest areas make for a comfortable day even in the tropical heat. Part of a wider wildlife reserve that includes the famous zoo and night safari, the park forms one element of an ambitious vision to make Mandai a world-leading nature destination. For families, photographers and anyone who delights in birds, Bird Paradise offers a vivid, colourful and immersive celebration of the winged world. The park opened in 2023 as the successor to the long-running Jurong Bird Park, whose collection was moved north to the Mandai wildlife precinct. Walk-through aviaries recreate habitats from African wetlands to South-East Asian rainforest, allowing visitors to share the space with the birds rather than view them through bars, and feeding sessions and flight presentations punctuate the day.
