Aqua World Rome

Aqua World is the water-park wing of the Cinecitta World theme park on the southern outskirts of Rome, sharing its site with the larger film-themed amusement complex and included in most tickets to its bigger neighbour. The water park covers around twenty thousand square metres and operates as a seasonal summer attraction during the hotter months. The centrepiece is the Cinepiscina, a 1,700-square-metre cinematic pool with a giant screen mounted at one end that shows film clips, sporting events and live shows while swimmers float in the shallow water. The pool depth runs from less than ten centimetres at one end to just over a metre at the deepest point, making it suitable for very young swimmers. A 300-metre lazy river called Paradiso winds through landscaped tropical vegetation, with bathers drifting along on oversized inflatables in a slow loop that takes around ten minutes to complete. A sandy beach area, the Phuket Beach, surrounds part of the lagoon, with sun loungers and umbrellas spread along the shore. For thrill-seekers, the two-seater Vortex slide drops riders through a tube fitted with light and sound effects before tipping them into a large suspended cone, while the Boomerang slide swings them forwards and backwards on a U-shaped run before launching them into the splash pool below. The wider Cinecitta World complex shares its name with the famous film studios in the city, and many of the rides and shows take a cinematic theme. Live entertainment, foam parties and evening events keep the energy up through the summer, and a restaurant and bar serve food beside the pool. Reached by the Pontina highway and connected to central Rome by bus and a combined train-and-shuttle service, Aqua World makes a popular day out for families looking to escape the summer heat of the capital, and the included access from a Cinecitta World ticket means the two parks can be combined into a long, varied day. The park grounds are arranged with shaded loungers, sun umbrellas and changing rooms, and an in-park RistoBar serves breakfast, lunch and aperitifs poolside. Birthday-party packages and group bookings are accommodated with reserved areas. Aqua World can also be visited overnight by campervan, with parking on site for those willing to stay over for an early-morning swim before the heat builds, and the wider Cinecitta World complex includes themed rides on its film studios past, including a section inspired by ancient Rome and another devoted to the western movies once shot in Italy.
