Cinecittà World

Opened in 2014 on the site of an old Dino De Laurentiis film studio south of Rome, Cinecitta World is a cinema-themed amusement park that takes the look and feel of Italian film history as the inspiration for its rides, attractions and dining areas. The park covers around twenty-five hectares at Castel Romano and is owned by the Cinecitta Spa group that also operates the main film studios on the eastern edge of Rome. The thirty-five rides and attractions are themed across several zones, each evoking a different cinematic world. Cinecitta Street, the main entrance avenue, recreates a Hollywood-style boulevard with shops and restaurants. The Ancient Rome quarter features grand reconstructions of Roman streets and squares used as the backdrop for outdoor shows and a heavily themed thrill ride. The signature roller coaster, Altair, is a giant inverted multi-loop coaster themed on a sci-fi narrative around an alien planet, with a long pre-show in a darkened launch room. The Cagliostro mine train, themed on a dark gothic legend, is a popular family coaster, and a 4D cinema experience runs short themed films using moving seats and special effects to throw visitors into the action. Several attractions take advantage of the original heritage of the site as a film backlot. Studios used by Dino De Laurentiis for productions including Conan the Barbarian, The Bible and others were reused as ride buildings, and walking-tour areas explain how the various sets were constructed and used. The Wild West zone includes a stunt show on horseback that runs several times a day. A wave pool and water-park area, opened in 2015 as Aqua World Roma, occupies a separate ticket area next door, with thirty water slides, swimming pools and a lazy river. Combined tickets between the two parks make it possible to visit both in a single day during the summer months when both are open. Reached by a shuttle bus from the EUR Magliana metro station or by car from the A12 motorway south of Rome, the park is open from spring to early autumn with extended hours in the summer holidays and has built up a steady local following as the largest theme park within easy reach of the capital, particularly popular with school groups and family visitors during the warmer half of the year.
