A small dedicated fado performance theatre on Rua da Misericordia in the historic central Chiado district of Lisbon, Fado in Chiado is one of the principal continuing professional fado concert venues of the wider Portuguese capital. The venue has been operating continuously since around 2008 and provides one of the principal continuing daily professional fado concert experiences in the central historic district, with the standard fifty-minute concerts running daily Monday through Saturday throughout the year. The venue is housed in the historic Cine-Teatro Gymnasio building on Rua da Misericordia 14, immediately adjacent to the famous Largo do Chiado square in the historic central commercial and cultural Chiado district. The principal performance space is a small traditional theatre auditorium with seating capacity for approximately seventy audience members across the standard auditorium-style seating arrangement. The smaller venue scale provides the standard intimate fado concert environment without the supplementary commercial dining service of the various larger fado dinner houses across the surrounding central districts.
