Barcelona San Sebastian Beach

Together with neighbouring Barceloneta, Platja de Sant Sebastia is the oldest and most traditional beach in Barcelona. It lies at the western end of the city's shoreline, in the Ciutat Vella district, and takes its name from the former Sant Sebastia baths, among the first public bathing facilities in the city and originally the preserve of the well-to-do classes in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. At roughly a kilometre in length it is also one of Barcelona's longest beaches, and it is regularly cited as one of the cleanest. The building of the W Barcelona hotel at its southern tip created a small, sheltered cove lined with restaurants. The beach is home to several historic sports clubs offering sailing and other water activities, reflecting its long association with the sea. Well connected to the old town and only a short walk from the centre, Sant Sebastia is popular with both residents of Ciutat Vella and visitors. Standard municipal facilities -- lifeguards, showers, sunbed and watercraft hire and seasonal beach bars -- operate through the summer.
