Dragonfly

Opened on West Port in 2003, Dragonfly is often called Edinburgh's oldest modern cocktail bar, and is credited with setting the template for the city's cocktail scene. It occupies a former fire station near the Grassmarket in the Old Town, with a discreet entrance opening into a double-height main bar hung with chandeliers and quirky decor. The space spreads over several levels: a long main bar, a mezzanine overlooking it, and a private room known as The D'Low, which has its own bar and sound system and seats groups of around 30 to 60. Cocktails are the speciality, with a seasonal house menu rotating through the year alongside classics, local beers and a wine list, and the back bar holds a couple of hundred spirits. During the Edinburgh Fringe the venue doubles as a festival space, also hosting DJs, parties and food pop-ups. It sits just up from the Grassmarket, a short walk from the Royal Mile, with capacity for around 187 across its floors.
