La Belle Angele

La Belle Angele is a 600-capacity live music and club venue tucked down Hastie's Close, a narrow wynd off the Cowgate in Edinburgh's Old Town, reachable only by staircases from Guthrie Street or the Cowgate. First opened in the 1990s, the original club hosted the likes of Oasis and Radiohead before it was destroyed in December 2002 in one of the largest UK fires in decades. After twelve years as a gap site, the venue was rebuilt and reopened in 2014, returning to its role at the forefront of the capital's music, art and club culture. It hosts touring bands and DJs across genres, typically running live shows in the early evening and club nights from around 11pm until 3am, and becomes a busy Fringe venue each August. Most shows are over-18s, with a top bar and accessible viewing area on the entrance level and a few steps down to the main dancefloor. It sits in the heart of the Cowgate, the sunken street at the centre of the Old Town's nightlife.
