Be At One Nottingham

In the basement of the Imperial Buildings on Victoria Street, in the centre of Nottingham, this branch of Be At One occupies a below-ground space in one of the city's established nightlife streets. Nottingham holds a particular place in the chain's history, as the bar the founders acquired here in the mid-1990s growth phase was among the early sites that helped the brand expand beyond London. Be At One was created in May 1998 by Steve Locke, Leigh Miller, and Rhys Oldfield, three bartenders who had worked together at TGI Fridays and wanted to open a cocktail bar that put the drinks and the service ahead of the styling. Their first bar opened on Battersea Rise in south London, and the cocktail-theatre approach - built around a menu that eventually reached roughly 101 cocktails - proved a strong enough formula to support steady national growth. By 2018 the group had expanded to more than thirty bars in prime high-street locations across the country. In July of that year it was bought by the Stonegate Pub Company in a deal reported at around 50 million pounds, after which the founders stepped away while the bars continued trading under the same name and the cocktail-led identity that defined them. The Nottingham bar offers the group's familiar package: an extensive cocktail menu mixed by trained bartenders, regular happy hours and promotions, and resident DJs who push the party atmosphere through the evening. Its central Victoria Street location, surrounded by other bars and close to the main shopping area, makes it a convenient spot for after-work drinks, celebrations, and weekend nights out. Be At One became known for its bartender culture, training staff to work through a long classic-and-contemporary menu at speed and running internal cocktail competitions, part of the wider growth of British cocktail bars in the 2000s and 2010s. Across the group, bars typically lead with two-for-one and happy-hour deals earlier in the week before turning to DJ-led party nights at weekends, with the size of the list forming part of the appeal. Nottingham has a large student population and a busy night-time economy, and the Victoria Street site sits close to the Lace Market and the main run of city-centre bars and clubs, giving the venue a strong catchment for after-work drinks and weekend celebrations.
