Founded in 1969, the Nightingale Club is Birmingham's oldest and largest LGBTQ+ venue, and one of the longest-running gay clubs in the United Kingdom. The club's origins lie in a rundown former Indian restaurant on Camp Hill, purchased by two men determined to create a viable space for the city's gay community at a time when such venues faced significant hostility. Over the decades it relocated several times, through premises in Aston and on Thorp Street, before settling at its current Kent Street home in 1999.
