The Adrian Flux Waterfront

The Adrian Flux Waterfront is a live music venue and nightclub on King Street in Norwich, set in a converted former brewery warehouse on the bank of the River Wensum, close to the city centre and railway station. Long regarded as the most important venue of its size in the East of England, it has been a cornerstone of the region's alternative music scene for more than three decades. The venue owes its existence to the Norwich Venue Campaign, a grassroots movement formed in the 1980s to lobby for a purpose-built space where local bands could perform. After the council made an abandoned brewery available, the Grade II listed building was converted and opened on 24 October 1990, initially under a consortium before financial difficulties led to its closure in early 1993. It reopened that December under the management of the Union of UEA Students, which continues to run it as a sister venue to the UEA LCR. Across its history the Waterfront has hosted an extraordinary roll-call of artists, many captured early in their careers, including Nirvana, Radiohead, Pulp, The Verve, Arctic Monkeys, The Prodigy and Amy Winehouse, alongside more recent names. Its stage has long served as a key stop on the national touring circuit, cementing its reputation as a launchpad for emerging talent and a magnet for established acts. In September 2019 the venue announced a sponsorship partnership with Adrian Flux insurance, adopting its current name while retaining the identity and ethos that have defined it for decades. It continues to balance major touring shows with local band nights and club events, maintaining its founding commitment to supporting new music and giving homegrown performers a platform. By combining a storied heritage, a strong programme of live music and a dual role as both concert venue and nightclub, the Adrian Flux Waterfront remains central to Norwich's cultural life. Its converted-brewery setting, its links to the city's student community and its decades of memorable gigs make it one of the most significant venues in the East.
