Bootleg Social has been Blackpool's home of alternative live music since it opened its doors in December 2014. Set in a basement on Topping Street in the town centre, a short walk from Blackpool North station, the independently run late bar and live venue has spent more than a decade cultivating a reputation as something of a hidden gem, with a feel closer to a big-city music room than a seaside resort. The basement space holds around 330 people and is full of character, with exposed brick, walls layered in old event posters and a stage set up with cabaret-style seating for more intimate gigs. Practical touches for performers include a backstage storage room and a band flat above the venue that can sleep up to eight, reflecting its grassroots, music-first priorities. Accessibility is a point of pride, with a queue-jump service, reserved seating and free companion tickets, though stair access to the basement means it is not suitable for all disabled guests. Open from Monday to Saturday with hours that vary by event, Bootleg Social remains one of Blackpool's premier independent music venues.
