A purpose-built modern concert hall in the centre of Manchester, the Stoller Hall opened in April 2017 as part of Chetham's School of Music, the UK's largest specialist music school. Designed by Stephenson Studio with acoustic consultants Arup, the RIBA award-winning auditorium was retrofitted into a void left by an earlier phase of the school's building, directly opposite Victoria Station. Seating up to four hundred and eighty-two across stalls, balcony and gallery, the hall is celebrated for its state-of-the-art acoustics and intimate, timber-lined interior. An adjustable acoustic design and an extendable stage allow the room to flex between configurations, while warm wood panelling and fully accessible facilities create a welcoming environment for performers and audiences alike. The programme is deliberately broad, taking in classical, chamber, folk and jazz alongside contemporary music, spoken word and comedy. Since opening it has hosted everyone from the Manchester Collective to touring singer-songwriters, quickly establishing itself as one of the city's favourite mid-size venues for live music. Visitors enter through the striking Oglesby Atrium, which serves both the main hall and its smaller sister room, the one-hundred-and-seventy-seat Carole Nash Hall, and houses an in-house bar for refreshments and pre-show events. The venue is available for hire for public concerts with full technical, front-of-house and box-office support, complementing its role within the school. Standing on Hunts Bank beside Manchester Victoria, the hall is exceptionally well placed for local, regional and national visitors arriving by train, tram or road. Combining world-class acoustics, an intimate scale and a wide-ranging programme, the Stoller Hall has become a valued addition to Manchester's rich concert-hall tradition.
