TD Pavilion at Highmark Mann

Built for the United States Bicentennial and opened on 14 June 1976, the outdoor amphitheatre in West Fairmount Park was created as a new summer home for the Philadelphia Orchestra, succeeding the ageing Robin Hood Dell where the orchestra had performed since the 1930s. Originally named Robin Hood Dell West, it was renamed the Mann Music Center in 1979 for businessman and music patron Fredric R. Mann, became the Mann Center for the Performing Arts in 2000, and was rebranded the Highmark Mann in 2025. The amphitheatre on the campus, now the TD Pavilion at Highmark Mann, has a total capacity of around 14,000, with roughly 4,700 seats under its distinctive cedar-lined roof and space for more than 8,500 on the Great Lawn, where patrons spread blankets and picnic with a clear view of the Philadelphia skyline. The campus also includes the smaller open-air Skyline Stage at the top of the hill. A major investment ahead of the 2019 season transformed the pavilion, part of a 43.5 million dollar campaign that added around 4,500 covered seats, lawn-facing LED video screens, an upgraded sound system and improved sight lines. The name TD Pavilion arrived alongside a sponsorship deal that same year. As one of the foremost outdoor music centres in the country, the venue remains the summer home of the Philadelphia Orchestra while presenting rock, hip-hop, R&B, jazz and pop, and hosting events such as the Roots Picnic. Repeatedly nominated as a leading major outdoor concert venue, it draws several hundred thousand visitors a year and supports extensive free educational programming through its arts institute, anchoring live performance in Fairmount Park as it has for generations. The venue made its mark immediately, hosting in its first season the Philadelphia premiere of the Israel Philharmonic and the North American debut of conductor Zubin Mehta. Its main platform is the Presser Foundation Stage, and the campus's open-air Skyline Stage at the top of the hill seats several thousand more with panoramic views of the city. Repeatedly nominated by the trade publication Pollstar as a leading major outdoor concert venue, the Mann balances its orchestral heritage with contemporary events such as the Roots Picnic, and its tented Crescendo restaurant and VIP lounges round out an experience set among the greenery of Philadelphia's oldest and largest park.
