Three Links takes its name from the symbol of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, whose three chain links represent friendship, love and truth, a theme that runs through the artistic decor of this Deep Ellum bar and music venue. Its founders wanted a secret-society feel without borrowing a name directly from any lodge, so they settled on Three Links and filled the walls with related imagery. The venue opened on 8 March 2013 at 2704 Elm Street in the heart of Dallas's Deep Ellum entertainment district, founded by talent buyer Scott Beggs, Tactics Productions founder Kris Youmans and Elm Street Tattoo owner Oliver Peck. They took over the space that had housed the music venue La Grange, which closed in late 2012, moving quickly to revive a room that had left a gap in the local live-music landscape. The reworked space added a larger stage, a revamped sound system and a wider beer selection, with a long, narrow, stone-walled layout built almost like a concert runway, a walkway leading toward the back of the stage. Holding roughly 150 to 200 people, it delivers a deliberately intimate, concert-like experience, with the stage set in a corner so that crowds can spill toward the back doors and a smoking area when shows get rowdy. Affordable by design, the venue keeps ticket prices low, often in the range of ten to fifteen dollars, and stocks a deep bar of taps, cans and bourbon, staying open seven days a week. Its programming runs from rock, punk and metal to indie and electronic, and it has built a reputation as a tight-knit neighbourhood hangout as much as a gig room, a place where regulars know the staff. Praised as one of the best spots to catch live, raw music in North Texas, Three Links books a steady mix of national, regional and local acts, and has hosted everything from touring punk bills to a local School of Rock metal showcase. It remains a characterful fixture of Deep Ellum's dense cluster of bars and music venues.
