Truist Field - Charlotte

Home to the Charlotte Knights, the Triple-A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, Truist Field is a baseball stadium in the Uptown district of Charlotte, North Carolina. Opened on 22 March 2014 as BB&T Ballpark, it brought the Knights back within the city limits after a quarter-century playing in the suburb of Fort Mill, South Carolina, and became the third major sports venue in Uptown alongside the arenas of the NFL's Panthers and the NBA's Hornets. Built at a cost of around 54 million dollars on a site bounded by Mint and Graham streets, the ballpark holds about 10,200 fans and offers sweeping views of the Charlotte skyline beyond the outfield fence. Designed by Odell Associates with ballpark specialists, it features a brick-and-glass grandstand, a grass berm and bleacher seating, luxury skyboxes and skydecks, all woven into the dense fabric of the financial district. The stadium took its current name in 2020 after BB&T merged with SunTrust to form Truist, the bank that had earlier sponsored the Atlanta Braves' suburban ballpark. The first event held there was a media softball game in March 2014, with the first Knights game following in April, and the park set a record attendance of more than 11,000 on the Fourth of July in 2024. Its central location, served by Charlotte's light rail and streetcar lines, has made it a popular downtown gathering place as much as a baseball venue, with the surrounding skyline forming a dramatic backdrop. The intimate scale of the seating bowl keeps fans close to the action across a range of seating levels and perspectives. More than a decade after opening, Truist Field remains one of the most prominent minor-league ballparks in the country and a key piece of Uptown Charlotte's sports and entertainment cluster. By returning professional baseball to the heart of the city, it helped reconnect the Knights with their urban fan base in the Queen City.
