A 5,000-capacity indoor arena beside Stadium MK in Milton Keynes, Arena MK is a multi-purpose event space spread over three floors and offering some 3,420 square metres of flexible floor area. Opened on 5 February 2014 and designed by the architects Populous, it was conceived as a blank-canvas venue for music, sport, conferences, exhibitions and parties. The arena is built into the Stadium MK complex, which is home to MK Dons Football Club and the on-site DoubleTree by Hilton hotel, giving it ready access to accommodation, parking and catering. The main floor can hold up to 5,000 standing for concerts, with arena-style seating for several thousand and conference layouts for up to 3,500 delegates. Between 2018 and a later date it was branded the Marshall Arena under an agreement with the amplifier maker Marshall. The venue has hosted a wide range of events, from concerts and exhibitions to the Professional Darts Corporation's Masters tournament, held there since 2015. It played a notable role during the coronavirus pandemic, when its self-contained facilities allowed professional snooker to continue behind closed doors; it hosted the Championship League and the first thirteen tournaments of the 2020-21 season, and went on to stage ranking events including the English Open and British Open. Equipped with balconies, green rooms, production offices, multiple bars and a dedicated kitchen, the arena markets itself as one of the largest indoor venues in the region. Its location just off the M1 between London and Birmingham, with extensive parking and an on-site hotel, makes it a convenient destination for touring shows and large events. Its dual identity as both a concert arena and a conference and exhibition centre lets it switch between standing music crowds and seated corporate audiences within the same shell. The integration with the football stadium, hotel and retail park around it means visitors can combine an event with accommodation and parking on a single site, a model that has helped Milton Keynes attract national touring shows and sporting fixtures.
