A classic Victorian seafront hotel reimagined by more than thirty contemporary artists, Art B&B on Blackpool's Promenade turns the traditional seaside guesthouse into a stay-in-art experience. Its nineteen rooms have each been curated as a unique installation, ranging from seafront suites to family rooms, so that no two are alike. The hotel is run as a Community Interest Company that reinvests its profits into arts and community projects, and it grew out of a project by the local arts organisation LeftCoast, which remains a resident providing a programme of events, talks, workshops and performances. Staff are paid employees, with a voluntary board overseeing the social enterprise. On the ground floor, the building houses the Art Bar, a cocktail bar and venue, and B-Space, a multi-function meeting and performance space, making it a cultural venue as well as accommodation. Rooms created by named artists explore themes from Blackpool's entertainment history to LGBT+ identity and the town's illuminations. Set on the Promenade between the sea and the resort's neon, the hotel offers sea views, sunsets and the chance to take in Blackpool's shows, magic acts and illuminations as part of a stay. Group bookings come with a dedicated event coordinator and access to meeting facilities. Housed in what was formerly the Ocean Hotel, the building keeps a sense of its seaside-entertainment past while presenting it through contemporary art. For visitors it offers a distinctive alternative to Blackpool's many conventional seafront hotels, combining a place to sleep with a working arts venue. The hotel was developed with public and arts funding as a way of using culture to support regeneration on Blackpool's seafront, part of wider efforts to renew the resort beyond its traditional attractions. By turning every bedroom into a commissioned artwork and channelling profits back into community projects, it positions itself as both a place to stay and an ongoing arts venture rather than a conventional hotel.
