The Glee Club Glasgow is a comedy and live-music venue on Renfrew Street in the centre of the city, beside the cinema district. Opened in 2019, it was the first Scottish outpost of one of the United Kingdom's most successful comedy-club chains, bringing weekend stand-up bills and touring shows to the city. The Glee brand has an illustrious history, having given early stage time to comedians who went on to major success, including Kevin Bridges, John Bishop and Michael McIntyre. The Glasgow club opened on 1 February 2019 with a launch weekend featuring a rare club appearance by Sean Lock among others. Its core offering is regular mixed-bill comedy nights on Fridays and Saturdays, blending newcomers with familiar faces, supplemented by touring solo shows from big names at other times. The venue also hosts live music gigs, spoken-word and talks events, and cabaret and burlesque shows. Laid out in a theatre style, the room seats around 350 or holds up to 600 standing, giving audiences the chance to see well-known acts in a relatively intimate setting. A fully stocked bar serves cocktail pitchers and a good range of Scottish craft beers, with food and drink available to pre-order. Its Renfrew Street location places it in the heart of Glasgow, close to the cinemas, restaurants and transport links of the city centre. That central position makes it an easy destination for a night of comedy or live entertainment. As part of a respected national chain with a strong track record in nurturing comic talent, the Glasgow club offers a dependable, professionally run programme. Its arrival gave the city a dedicated home for stand-up to sit alongside its established music and theatre venues. Since opening, the club has become a regular stop for the country's touring comedians and a reliable place for Glasgow audiences to catch established names and new talent alike in a single, comfortable room.
