Tyne Bank Brewery is an independent Newcastle brewery and taproom on Walker Road in the east of the city, a short distance from the Ouseburn valley and Hoults Yard. The business was founded in 2011 by Julia Austin, initially brewing at the former Hadrian and Border site on the Hawick Crescent Industrial Estate before demand outgrew the original premises. In 2016 the brewery moved to its current home at 375 Walker Road, a larger industrial warehouse that allowed it to expand production and open a tap room to the public towards the end of each week. The taproom pours the brewery's own cask and keg range alongside guest drinks, with seating set among the working brewing kit so visitors can drink within sight of the tanks. An outdoor trailer has served coffee, snacks and wood-fired pizza to accompany the beer. Under new ownership from 2022, the brewery refreshed its core range around a North East identity, working with local artists who designed the pump clips, can designs and bottle labels. The same industrial space doubles as a private hire and events venue, available seven days a week for weddings, corporate dinners, networking, meetings and parties, with the brewing hall providing an unusual backdrop. Its position on the edge of the Ouseburn, an area dense with independent bars, music venues and makers, has helped the taproom become a regular fixture for drinkers exploring the district. Combining a working brewery, a public bar and a flexible function space on one site, Tyne Bank reflects the wider growth of small-batch brewing across Tyneside over the past decade and a half. The brewery's output spans traditional cask ales and modern keg styles, from session bitters and pale ales to stronger specials, many named with a nod to the North East. Its position just off Walker Road, on the eastern fringe of the city, has made the taproom a destination in its own right for drinkers happy to travel beyond the more central bars, while the open warehouse setting lends itself equally to a quiet weekday pint and a busy weekend event among the tanks.
