Stretching 1.8 kilometres along the south bank of Dubai Creek, Al Seef is a waterfront shopping and dining district developed by Meraas beside the historic Al Fahidi neighbourhood. Completed in 2017, the pedestrianised promenade was designed to tell the story of Dubai's transformation, splitting into two distinct halves along the water. The heritage zone recreates the look of old Dubai, with low coral-and-gypsum buildings, wind towers and narrow lanes housing a traditional souk, craft stalls, art galleries and an amphitheatre. The contemporary zone takes a sleeker form, with glass-fronted shops, open terraces and design-led interiors lining the creekside walk. Dining is a central draw, with more than two dozen restaurants and a string of cafes ranging from Emirati and Gulf cooking to Italian, Indian and Mediterranean menus, many with terraces over the water. A marina, a floating market and traditional dhows moored along the creek add to the maritime character, alongside attractions such as a museum of illusions. Three hotels, including two Zabeel House properties, allow visitors to stay within the district, and abra crossings link it to the souks of Deira on the opposite bank. Free to enter and open through the day and evening, Al Seef has become one of the creek's busier destinations for shopping, eating and an evening stroll. Throughout the year the district hosts seasonal events, markets and performances in its plazas, with the calendar busiest during Ramadan and the cooler winter months. Water transport adds to the appeal, with abras and water buses calling at the creekside stations and dhow trips departing from the marina. Parking and easy access from the surrounding roads make it a straightforward stop, and its blend of old and new architecture has made it a favourite with photographers exploring the creek.
