Founded in 2023 by comedian Davor Bajlovic, Aarhus Comedy Club is the city's only dedicated stand-up club and has quickly become the anchor of a growing comedy scene in Denmark's second city. The club began life in Mejlgade, but within a year it had outgrown the room, and in January 2025 it moved into larger, smarter premises at Europaplads 16 on the harbour front, directly opposite the Dokk1 library and culture house - the entrance is on the side of the building facing Dokk1. The programming follows the classic comedy-club formula: free open mic nights on weekdays, where established names and newcomers alike test fresh material in front of an audience that knows anything can happen, and ticketed weekend shows featuring seasoned Danish comedians. Despite its short history the stage has already hosted some of the country's biggest profiles, including Frank Hvam, Tobias Dybvad and Victor Lander, alongside showcase nights for new talent. Beyond straight stand-up the club experiments with formats of its own - Comedy Bonanza packs a rapid-fire line-up of different comedians into a single evening, Comedy Superliga pits comics against each other in improvised challenges, and themed nights have ranged from drag stand-up to comedy bingo. Workshops for aspiring comedians run during festivals such as Aarhus Festuge, keeping the amateur pipeline flowing. The room itself is intimate, with seating close to the stage so the audience can feel the energy of the performance, and a bar serving drinks through the show. A typical ticketed evening runs two 40-minute sets with a short interval. Doors normally open an hour before showtime, and latecomers may have to wait for the break to be seated. Recent seasons give a flavour of the range: free summer comedy evenings with cold drinks and fresh line-ups, the judging game show Dommesyge where the audience gets to be openly judgmental, the irreverent Dirty Banko Night that crosses bingo with stand-up, and De Nye Ansigter showcases presenting the country's best new talents. It adds up to the kind of week-round comedy engine that Danish cities outside Copenhagen long lacked - and its opening quickly made Aarhus a fixed stop on comedians' touring calendars.
