Several rival markets now trade on the great open field of Bellahojmarken in Copenhagen's Bronshoj district, and the name Bellahoj Kraemmermarked has a tangled history among them. The original flea-and-traders market was launched by local volunteers in September 1991, dreamed up in the neighbourhood council and run to raise money for local sports clubs' youth work; it was an instant success, mixing hundreds of traders' stalls with live music across all styles, and it still runs every year in early September - though competition over the name eventually forced the locals to rebrand their event as the Bellahoj Kraemmerfestival. The Bellahoj Kraemmermarked title is today used by commercially run markets on the same ground, typically held over long weekends in spring and autumn, with professional traders, food stalls and funfair-style entertainment. Whichever operator is behind a given weekend, the formula is the same: rows of kraemmer (peddler) stalls selling everything from antiques and bric-a-brac to tools, clothes and toys, spread across the field between Hvidkildevej and Bellahojvej. The site is served by buses along Frederikssundsvej and Borups Alle, with the Bellahoj open-air stage and swimming halls as neighbours. Dates and operators change from year to year, so checking the current season's announcements before travelling is advisable.
