The building that helped invent the Inner Harbor still runs the Mid-Atlantic meetings trade. The calendar runs about 125 events and half a million attendees a year - conventions, trade shows, fan expos, sporting events and public shows - generating direct spending measured in the hundreds of millions; the long residency of the Otakon anime convention through 2016 remains local legend for the costumed crowds it poured onto Pratt Street each summer. Camden Yards sits a block west, the Inner Harbor pavilions a block east, and a modernisation program is working through the building's middle age - the location that made it in 1979 has never stopped doing the heavy lifting. Public-facing events keep the building in civic rotation beyond the trade calendar - comic and anime conventions, gem and boat shows, graduation ceremonies and championship sports draw six-figure local attendance annually, and the center's pandemic chapter as a field hospital and mass vaccination site cemented its emergency-infrastructure role. The Camden Terrace outdoor deck and the skywalk connections to Oriole Park and the harbor make it one of the few American convention centers where attendees genuinely walk everywhere.
