Orlando's largest independent all-suite resort turned itself into a convention and entertainment city-state. The Caribe Royale at 8101 World Center Drive opened its first tower in November 1996, phasing in two more ten-story towers within six months and adding 120 two-bedroom villas by 1998 for an inventory of over 1,300 suites across a 60-plus-acre campus in Lake Buena Vista, a mile and a half from Walt Disney World. Privately held from the start - long a Sierra Land Group property, jointly run with the adjacent Buena Vista Suites - the resort built its meeting business in phases, reaching 150,000 square feet by 2003 and, after a 160-million-dollar reimagination completed in the 2020s, more than 260,000 square feet of event space today. The convention plant is the region's largest outside the chain-flag giants: four main ballrooms - including the newer Coral Ballroom - 58 breakout rooms and capacity for events of up to about 5,250, which draws association conventions, corporate programs, esports gatherings and even the World Boxing Association's annual convention. The AAA Four Diamond property remains Orlando's only all-suite convention resort at that rating, and its independence is a selling point: planners deal with an empowered in-house team rather than a brand playbook. The leisure hardware got the same investment: a tropical main pool with waterfalls and a 75-foot waterslide, renovated suites and villas, a collection of restaurants led by the acclaimed Venetian Chop House, sports simulators and late-night bar programming, tennis, a fitness club and a standalone spa in development - resort amenities calibrated for the family-plus-conference crowd the location guarantees. Sitting off World Center Drive with Disney's gates minutes away, Universal ten miles out and the airport a straight shot down the 417, the Caribe Royale competes on the simplest Orlando math there is: suites big enough for families, ballrooms big enough for industries, and one bill for both.
