Circus Vazquez - Plaza Fiesta

A fourth-generation Mexican family circus pitches its blue-and-white big top in the Plaza Fiesta parking lot when the tour swings through Atlanta. Circus Vazquez at 4166 Buford Highway NE, on the grounds of the Plaza Fiesta mall in the heart of Atlanta's pan-Latin Buford Highway corridor, is a recurring stop for the touring production of Circo Hermanos Vazquez, founded in Mexico City in 1969 by brothers Jose Guillermo and Rafael Vazquez under a tent their family stitched by hand. The circus toured Mexico and Central America for decades - famously becoming the only circus to perform in Mexico City's Zocalo in 1986 - before crossing into the United States in 1993, where it has grown into one of the country's premier travelling family circuses. The modern show is animal-free spectacle in the European tradition: international acrobats, aerialists, wheel-of-death and flying trapeze acts, award-winning clowns and a live band under a climate-controlled big top engineered with state-of-the-art lighting and seating - a deliberate step up from the sawdust circuses of the family's origins. Ringmaster Memo Vazquez leads the fourth generation of the family through a roughly two-hour production that refreshes acts annually, with pre-show and intermission meet-and-greets, photo opportunities and concessions keeping the experience affordably family-first. The company, headquartered in Donna, Texas, also runs the sister production Flip Circus, and the family was inducted into the Circus Ring of Fame in 2026. The Plaza Fiesta residency typically runs several weeks, with multiple shows daily on weekends, and the setting is part of the appeal: the mall is metro Atlanta's Latin American marketplace, and the circus's bilingual, Spanish-forward presentation plays to a crowd that knows the Vazquez name from generations back home. Weeknight and matinee tickets keep prices within family reach, with free admission for the youngest children. For Atlanta audiences the visit is a seasonal event rather than a fixed venue - when the trucks and the big top appear off Buford Highway, one of North America's great family circus traditions is briefly in residence.
