A century-old electric foundry now ferments wine and hosts songwriters in Midtown St. Louis. City Winery St. Louis opened on 18 March 2023 at 3730 Foundry Way, Suite 158, inside City Foundry STL - the sprawling former Century Electric foundry complex between Grand Center and the Cortex district that reopened in 2021 as a food hall, office and entertainment campus. The venue brought Michael Dorf's urban-winery formula to Missouri: a working winery with tanks and barrels on site, a full restaurant and wine bar, and an intimate seated concert room where dinner and wine service run straight through the show. The concert hall seats roughly 300 at tables, scaled for the listening-room end of the touring circuit - songwriters, soul and R&B veterans, folk, jazz, blues and Americana, along with comedy - and the chain's residency model gives artists multiple quiet nights in front of a dining crowd rather than one shouting one. House wines fermented on the premises pour on tap beside a global list, and the daytime calendar runs to tastings, wine classes, private events and the barrel-room dinners that have become a City Winery signature. The location stitches the venue into a live-music corridor that St. Louis spent two decades rebuilding. Grand Center's theatres - the Fox, Powell Hall, the Sheldon - sit just north, Saint Louis University borders the site, and the Foundry's own food hall and cinema keep the complex busy every night of the week. For the chain, which grew from Dorf's 2008 Manhattan original into a national network after his years founding the Knitting Factory, St. Louis extended the map into the mid-Mississippi market. The room itself keeps the industrial bones of the foundry - steel, brick and high ceilings softened by the barrels - and gives the city something it did not have: a seated, dinner-service listening room where the wine on the table was made a few steps from the stage.
