Georgia World Congress Center

It was the first state-owned convention centre in America, and the authority that runs it went on to build the Georgia Dome, Centennial Olympic Park and Mercedes-Benz Stadium around it. The Georgia World Congress Center, at 285 Andrew Young International Boulevard in downtown Atlanta, opened on 8 September 1976 with 350,000 square feet of exhibit space - already among the largest in the country - and has never stopped growing. Today the GWCC encloses 3.9 million square feet with more than 1.5 million square feet of exhibit space across three buildings, making it the fourth-largest convention centre in the United States and the largest LEED-certified convention centre in the world. More than a million visitors pass through annually. Its history tracks Atlanta's rise. The 1976 opening - first event: the Bobbin apparel trade show - vaulted the city into the top tier of convention destinations within a few years. During the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games the complex served as the International Broadcast Center while hosting fencing, judo, wrestling, handball, table tennis, weightlifting and modern pentathlon across five halls. The campus concept is the real differentiator: the GWCC connects directly to Mercedes-Benz Stadium and faces Centennial Olympic Park, with State Farm Arena, the Georgia Aquarium and the World of Coca-Cola all within a few blocks - a 220-acre events district in the heart of downtown. Signature bookings range from the Dragon Con gaming halls and massive trade shows to college football fan fests feeding the stadium next door. Logistics: MARTA's GWCC/CNN Center and Vine City stations bracket the campus, parking decks total in the thousands of spaces, and the International Boulevard corridor links straight to the hotel core. Building C's 2002 expansion and continuous renovations keep the 1976 pioneer contemporary.
